Roofs
Original materials strongly preferred: slate, cedar shake, raised rib metal (e.g., copper) with historical detail. Architectural grade asphalt shingles are allowed in color compatible with the home's original construction. "Three-tab" shingles are not permitted. If a joined home, materials must match neighbor's as nearly as possible. A list of approved shingles is available from the office.
Fences
Fencing not to extend beyond the line of the house line. Four feet maximum height. Stockade, chain link, board on board not permitted. Other fence styles considered on a case-by-case basis. Must be installed "good" side to the public view. Applicant may be required to paint or stain fencing material.
Paint
Color of exterior paint must be compatible with neighborhood. Provide a sample or adequate description. Trim and predominant colors on attached homes should be uniform; minor elements (e.g., doors) may vary.
Additions, Enclosures and Alterations
Detailed drawings indicating materials, dimensions and site plan (if appropriate) must accompany application. Scale and style must harmonize with existing structure and should be in keeping with ambiance of neighborhood.
Restoration
Materials, colors and styles should conform to or be compatible with original. Treatment should preserve the original detail of the structure.
New Construction
A full set (three copies) of detailed working drawings and samples of all exterior materials plus a detailed site plan must accompany application. All new construction should be in keeping with style, appearance and quality of surrounding houses.
Landscaping, Pools and Decks
Changes in hardscape (ponds, pools, decks, walkways, garden and retaining walls) must be approved.

Exterior Lighting
All light fixtures installed on your home or property must be approved. This includes lamp posts, flood lights, landscape and path lights.
Machinery
The placement of residential machinery such as heat pumps, compressors, air conditioning systems is subject to approval. They should be placed so as to minimize interference with neighboring property.
Satellite dish location for televisions must be approved.
Windows
Wood, matching or in character, in style and proportion with existing original.
Other Structures
All structures must be approved.
- Playsets — Must be in rear yard, not visible from the street, with dark green canopy.
- Sheds — Prefabricated storage sheds are not permitted.
